Waverley Blues

The Blues have been consistently competitive since commencing in the Eastern Football League in 1999. The club’s reserves won a Division Four premiership in their debut season and the seniors followed suit a year later. Between 2001 and 2004 Waverley Blues competed in Division Three and when relegated at the end of that time took just a single season to bounce back, courtesy of a 14.7 (91) to 12.12 (84) Division Four grand final defeat of The Basin. The Basin it was who inflicted the Blues’ only defeat of the year, winning the second semi final clash between the sides by 9 points.

Since 2005 the Blues have gone from strength to strength. In 2008 they achieved promotion from Division Three with a 2 point grand final triumph over Mooroolbark. Their debut season in Division Two saw them perform solidly to finish fifth (of ten) and the next seven seasons saw them consolidate at that level albeit without quite managing to qualify for finals football. The 2017 season brought a sharp decline in fortunes as the Blues managed just 2 wins in 18 matches to plummet to last place and with it relegation back to Division Three where, in 2018, they consolidated to finish mid-table.
